Grade 30: General Purpose

Grade 30, also known as ‘proof coil’ is a common commercial quality chain stocked in a variety of finishes such as self-colour, zinc coated and hot dip galvanized. Grade 30 is a general-purpose chain for barrier, safety chain and suspension type applications. Proof coil is not for overhead lifting or where maximum tensile nor impact strength is crucial.

Grade 70: Transport/Tiedown

Grade 70 Transport Chain is made from boron treated steel which provides a high strength-to-weight ratio. Originally designed for load binding, transport chain is also superior for towing and safety chains.

Grade 70 chain is easily identifiable by its usual gold finish. Unlike general utility chains Grade 70 chain will have an identifier embossed indicating the grade at least every foot.

In order to meet compliance in some jurisdictions. Campbell-Mack Supply also offers a domestic manufactured Grade 70 chain with the breaking strength embossed on the link.

Utility Chains

  • Sash chain is ideal for hanging lighting fixtures and various novelty applications where low-grade chains are acceptable.

  • Passing link is a general utility chain that is typically used for farm and livestock applications. The wide link design allows the links to pass one another, easily reducing the chance of binding and kinking.

  • Single jack is typically used for hanging signs, lighting fixtures and novelties such as flowerpots, children’s toys and other general utility applications.

  • Harrow chain was once used to make harrows for aerate soil. Now it is commonly used as a general utility chain where a larger link is desired.

  • Machine chain is a short link welded chain; it is designed for applications where compactness and flexibility are desired and most of the time required. The applications include but are not limited to tailgates, farm and industrial equipment.

  • Lock link is a unique weldless chain where the links face the same direction. The strongest of the weldless chains. Commonly used for overhead doors, suspension and conveyor systems.

  • Double loop or lion chain is a general utility chain for multiple applications such as porch swings, children’s swings, animal chains and light fixtures.

  • Brass safety chains are generally used with plumbing fixtures.

Stainless Steel

Type 304 is slightly magnetic whereas Type 316 is completely non-magnetic. Typically used in marine, industrial and architectural applications where anti-corrosion is preferred.
